What is Denial of Service

Denial of Service or DoS is a term used in computing that basically means the deprivation of expected resource services. They are distributed as botnet or simply a number of compromised systems to target an important connectivity service or programming files. The source of these botnets cannot be easily identified but it is usually passed on through the web. Therefore, opening just about any links or sent email with link from an unknown sender should be moderated. It is believed that the usual reason for a DoS attack is to paralyze a program and enable identity or information theft to take place.

In layman??s terms, it is a form or hacking or virus infection on particular files and worst in the program or important connectivity services of a company or individual. These DoS attacks usually happen with medium secured files and computers, which is why different popular applications have already made more meticulous malware and botnet restricting software. It is then recommended that every computer owner??especially those who uses the web or at least have connectivity networks on it??should protect their computers inside out. Most of these anti-botnet security apps are downloadable, although it is best to trust only those that comes from identified sources.

What is Denial of Service

Common Denial of Service (DoS) types

Buffer Overflow Attacks: The Buffer Overflow Attacks is probably the most common kind of Denial of Service (DoS) attack, and they work by sending 256-character filenames of electronic messages to, say, Microsoft mailing programs or Netscape; sending larger than 256 character electronic mails to a pine e-mailing program, and sending ICMP or Internet Control Message Protocol packets in very huge amounts which is also known as PING or Packet Internet or Inter-Network Groper of death.

-SYN Attack: The SYN attack is basically sending multiple connection request that incoming legit connection requests can no longer get through. The name of this DoS attack is taken from the SYN field that is included in the session establishing packet when the server and TCP or Transport Control Program initiate connections??which is also known as hand shaking process.

-Teardrop Attack: The teardrop attack is a Denial of Service attack that exploit the IP or Internet Protocol. In this DoS, the attacker uses an IP value with confusing value. The effect of this DoS attack to the receiving end is monumental??even leaving the operating system to crash.

?

Smurf Attack: The Smurf attack is one of the Denial of Service attacks or DoS that makes use of IP ping to? request a broadcast to a number of host but is actually just one return address??the address of the victim. This causes a flooding of return messages that keeps legit new messages from coming in.

?

Viruses: ?Viruses are among the simplest kind of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. It comes in different types and styles and may replicate in a number of ways. It is also the fastest and usually neglected type of DoS.
